Have you mastered your strengths?
What are your strengths?
Strengths are something everybody has, and are things we find energising, enjoyable and easy to use. However, discovering them won't instantly improve our performance and empower us to flourish but they do help craft a working life that we enjoy. The real power lies in being able to practically apply our personal strengths to our work and understand how to use them.
Few roles are completely static and crafting our job doesn't mean we transform it beyond recognition. If we re-shape our job role around our strengths we can develop a sense of autonomy which serves to boost our energy and increase our satisfaction. If we approach routine tasks more creatively we can make them more meaningful which will empower us to thrive.
So, what's next?
How can we help our people get better at applying their strengths, master them and become happier?
Use them outside of the workplace. Firstly, we should be using our strengths in all aspects of our life, not just in our job role. Therefore, encourage your people to apply their strengths outside of work.
Encourage more intelligent collaboration. Solutions to complex challenges can be overcome more effectively if we’re all open about our strengths and weaknesses. By being open we can divide work so everyone is feeling energised about the tasks they have.
We focus on what’s ‘right’ rather than ‘fixing’ what’s ‘wrong’
We want to help individuals, teams and organisations build awareness around their strengths. Therefore, we have developed a Performance Motivation programme - the 45-minute workshops can teach people how to apply their strengths in different workplace scenarios. They can be delivered online for up to 500 people, face-to-face for smaller groups or in Train-The-Trainer format.
Similarly, our Performance Motivation Mat encourages teams to openly discuss their strengths during performance conversations. This self-facilitating tool aims to increase the time people spend in peak performance.
